Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2026
1. Introduction
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of LESSO, a teacher productivity platform operated by LESSO Ltd ("we", "our", "us"). By creating an account or using our services, you agree to these Terms.
2. Service Description
LESSO provides AI-powered educational tools including:
- Mrs J - An AI assistant for creating lesson plans, presentations, worksheets, and teaching materials
- Lesson planning and calendar management
- Communications hub for parent-teacher correspondence
- Resource library and material management
- LESSO Academy for professional development
3. Eligibility — 18+ Educators Only
LESSO is for adults whose job is to teach children. You must be at least 18 years old and a qualified educator or educational professional to create or use a LESSO account. By creating an account or using our services, you represent that you meet these requirements.
This is a deliberate architectural choice, not a soft preference. LESSO is never pupil-facing, never processes pupil data directly, and has no plan to do so. See our AI Transparency Statement and our Privacy Policy for the full position.
3a. School and Multi-Academy Trust Customers (B2B)
Where LESSO is procured by a school, multi-academy trust, or other educational organisation under a separate written agreement (a "School Agreement"):
- The school or trust is the data controller for the personal data of its staff users; LESSO acts as the data processor under Article 28 UK GDPR, governed by the Data Processing Agreement attached to the School Agreement.
- The School Agreement governs commercial terms (price, term, renewal, deployment), service levels, and any school-specific configuration. Where the School Agreement and these Terms conflict, the School Agreement prevails for staff using LESSO under that agreement.
- The school is responsible for verifying that its staff users meet the 18+ eligibility requirement in Section 3 and for any internal policies governing teacher use of LESSO at work.
- LESSO will never disclose individual-teacher prompts or outputs to school leadership in a form that allows individual-teacher surveillance. Reporting available to leadership is aggregated and anonymised by design.
4. Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activities that occur under your account
- Ensuring the accuracy of information you provide
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorised access
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property rights
- Attempt to circumvent security measures
- Share your account with others
- Use automated systems to access the service without permission
- Generate content that is harmful, discriminatory, or inappropriate for educational settings
6. AI-Generated Content and Teacher in the Loop
Mrs J generates educational content based on your instructions. You acknowledge that:
- Every Mrs J output — including drafted parent emails and drafted feedback — is for your review before it leaves the platform. You are the teacher in the loop.
- Mrs J does not mark pupils' work, generate predicted grades, or evaluate learning outcomes; you remain responsible for any assessment decisions.
- You are responsible for verifying accuracy, appropriateness, and any disclosure to pupils or parents.
- Generated content may require modification to meet specific requirements.
- We strive for accuracy but cannot guarantee error-free content.
See our AI Transparency Statement for the full list of what Mrs J does and what Mrs J is deliberately not built to do.
7. Intellectual Property
Your Content
You retain ownership of content you upload to LESSO. By uploading content, you grant us a licence to process it for service delivery and improvement.
Generated Content
Content generated by Mrs J based on your instructions is licensed to you for personal and professional educational use. You may use, modify, and share generated materials in your teaching practice.
Our Platform
The LESSO platform, including its design, code, and features, remains our intellectual property.
8. Subscription and Billing
LESSO offers various subscription tiers. By subscribing, you agree to:
- Pay the applicable fees for your chosen plan
- Automatic renewal unless cancelled before the renewal date
- Provide accurate billing information
Refunds are provided in accordance with UK consumer law. Contact support for refund requests.
9. Data Protection and Regulatory Framework
We process your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), as set out in our Privacy Policy. Customer and personal data are stored and processed exclusively in the United Kingdom on our UK-sovereign infrastructure (Civo Ltd, LON1 region) with Microsoft Azure UK South pinned as a fallback for AI inference.
The Data Processing Agreement applicable to school customers, the dated sub-processor list, the DPIA summary, and the security overview are published in the LESSO Trust Hub.
Mrs J is designed to operate consistently with the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), including the Article 50 transparency principles. By design, Mrs J does not perform tasks that would place her in the EU AI Act's Annex III high-risk education category — she does not evaluate learning outcomes, mark pupils' work, or generate predicted grades.
10. Service Availability
We strive to provide reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may:
- Perform maintenance that temporarily affects availability
- Modify or discontinue features with reasonable notice
- Impose usage limits as specified in your plan
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LESSO Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LESSO Ltd from claims arising from your use of the service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights.
13. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time via Settings. We may terminate or suspend your account for violation of these Terms. Upon termination:
- You may request export of your data within 30 days
- Refunds are subject to our refund policy
- Provisions that should survive termination will remain in effect
14. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms with reasonable notice via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with changes, you may terminate your account.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
16. Contact
For questions about these Terms, contact us at hello@lesso.co.uk. For privacy and data-protection matters, Luke, our co-founder, handles all compliance and can be reached at support@lesso.co.uk.
